Vikings win doubles and team state titles in tennis
It was an historic weekend for Columbus Academy's
girls tennis program as the Vikes won the Division II state doubles title on Saturday and the team state championship on Sunday.
In doubles, junior Christiana
Raymond and senior Val Micek
never lost a set on the way to the school's first state crown in girls
tennis. In the team competition, CA
avenged last year's final loss by blanking Lexington
3-0 in the semifinals before overpowering Cincinnati Hills
Christian Academy
3-1 in the championship. After splitting
the doubles matches and winning at No. 3 singles (junior Nisha Nataraj by a 6-1, 6-4 score), it came down to CA's top two
singles players. With Raymond leading
her match in the third set, senior captain Sheena
Koushik secured the victory with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. It marked Academy's 24th team
state title in 10 different sports.
Click here to see complete lists of CA's team state championships and
individual state title-holders and runners-up. It should also be noted that last Wednesday, Academy defeated eventual
Division I state champ Upper Arlington by a 3-2 score in a head-to-head
match-up of the state's top two teams, regardless of division. Click here to see photos from Sunday's final as well as Tuesday's flag ceremony.

Academy lands third State AP Scholar in six years
For the third time in six years, The Columbus Academy
has produced a State AP Scholar as
2008 graduate Alex Tomko (pictured) claimed the
prestigious honor in the College Board's Advanced Placement Program. With a 4.81 average on 14 college-level AP
Exams last May, the current Harvard University freshman joined Gary Zhang (2007) and Kishore Jiyanti (2003) as recent CA
winners of the State AP Scholar Award, which is granted to the one male and one
female student in each U.S. state with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest
number of AP Exams and with the highest average grade on all AP Exams taken. In all, Columbus Academy had 81 students earn the designation of AP
Scholar by the College Board in 2008.
Of those students who performed exceptionally well, 11 were named
National AP Scholars, 41 earned AP Scholar with Distinction and nine were AP
Scholars with Honor. Click here for the
complete list of Academy's 2008 AP Scholars.

Bring in your food donations by next Wednesday
Each year, the Columbus Academy Service Board
collects non-perishable food items to distribute to sponsored families in
need. Academy families who wish to
support the "Ten Can Days" drive
should send non-perishable food items to school with their children any school day between now and next Wednesday. Grocery carts will be available
at the car pool drop-offs and at the school's entrances so students will not
have to tote heavy items. Click here for
a list of requested items and for more information about this year's Holiday
Projects. If you would like to help
assemble meals on October 29, please contact Christy Bening at bening@columbusacademy.org.

Upper School News
"In a previous communication, we informed you
that our goal was to mail grades prior to Parent Conferences," says US Head Shane MacElhiney. "Unfortunately, the to-be-expected transitional
bugs in our new database system proved too big an obstacle to turn around
grades and get them mailed within 24 hours of being submitted by faculty. Plan B is now to pass out grade reports at
conferences. Please plan to arrive a few
minutes early to pick up your child's report card before your first
conference. We will be handing out
grades in the Upper
School lobby during the
day on Thursday (2:00-9:00 p.m.) and Friday (7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). Report cards that are not picked up by 4:00 p.m.
on Friday will be mailed. We look
forward to seeing you at conferences."
Academy's In

Vernon at WOSU's studios. Next up is an all-day tournament at Tipp City
on Saturday, November 8. The squad's
next match at WOSU will be at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 24.
All ninth-graders
are invited to a flag football game this Saturday, October 26, from 3-5 p.m. at
